Director of Sports Patrick Moster relieved of all international duties
Management Board of German Cycling Federation (BDR) decides on warning and further measures

The Management Board of the German Cycling Federation (BDR) has dealt intensively with the behaviour of his Diector of Sports Patrick Moster during the men's individual time trial in Tokyo.

The following decisions were taken in connection with the culturally discriminatory and completely unacceptable statement made by Patrick Moster:

1. Patrick Moster will be relieved of his international duties until further notice. Patrick Moster will receive a qualified written warning which will be included in the personnel file and will lead to further legal consequences in case of repetition. These measures are combined with a corresponding reduction in salary.

2. The BDR intends to invite the two athletes from Eritrea and Algeria, as well as representatives of their federations to Germany.

3. The BDR, together with the National Olympic Comitee´s (DOSB) Department of Sport and Integration, will review all of its training content in coaches and officials training in order to adapt and update if necessary, but also to support the regional associations in adapting their training content. One positive example is the module "Fit for Diversity".

4. The relevant sports organisations and other partners of the BDR will be informed of these measures, including the UCI and in particular the African and all other continental federations in cycling.

5. The BDR will provide regular updates on the status of all these measures.

Reasons:

Patrick Moster's statements are a massive violation of the values that the BDR and the sport as a whole stand for: Fairness, respect, tolerance as well as standing up against any form of discrimination, xenophobia and racism. On the other hand, it had to be taken into account that in the 21 years that Patrick Moster has been employed by the BDR, there has not been a single instance of misconduct in this direction.

Patrick Moster has also been involved in the integration of asylum seekers into the national cycling league and through projects for the international development of aspiring cycling nations through regular joint training camps, e.g. with the Indian national junior track team in Brandenburg.

The Management Board of BDR has positively assessed the fact that Patrick Moster publicly apologised immediately after the incident while the individual time trial was still in progress. A personal request for an apology after the race, which Patrick Moster had tried to convey, could not be delivered because the athletes of the two nations were already on their way to the airport. This personal apology was instead made electronically and will be delivered in person as soon as possible.

Quote Patrick Moster: "I still deeply regret my behaviour. Immediately after the event, I tried to convey my apology to the two athletes in person at the team hotel, which was unfortunately no longer possible due to their departure. I did so after my return.":
